Mathematics is the scariest yet a scoring subject. Students need to pay extra attention to their preparation in class 11 Maths because it is the foundation for the class 12 Maths syllabus. To score high in the upcoming board exam, and also in the entrance exams, you have to practice Maths in class 11. Even if you consider yourself poor in Maths, with hard work and proper planning, you can also get full marks in it.
There is no magic trick to get full marks in the exam. It requires hard work, dedication, and studying according to schedule. So your first step towards your goal should be to make a schedule and stick to it. Start doing so from the very first day of your session. This will help you to complete the vast syllabus of class 11 Maths. Try to stay ahead of your school. Invest more time into self-studying as it will increase your understanding of Maths. Incorporate time for your assignments and projects as well. To score 100 in the Maths exam, consistency should be your key. You must make the habit of devoting at least an hour to Maths no matter what. Every week, revise whatever new concepts you have learned throughout the week. Practice at least 10 sums from each exercise that day. When the syllabus is completed, try giving mock tests every weekend from previous years’ question papers.
Revision notes are very important, especially when it comes to Maths. You will need to remember a lot of formulas, their derivations, and concepts where you can apply these formulas. So, it is advised that you maintain a ‘formula notebook’, and write down important formulas whenever you study a new chapter. Practice the derivations of these formulas again and again until you are able to retrieve each and every step with ease. The best way to revise what you have studied is to start with an easy chapter, and eventually proceed to the tougher ones. Make a list of the easy and tough chapters. It will not seem like a burden on you when you realize that you have already covered easy yet scoring chapters, and you would tackle the difficult chapters with much confidence.
Topics covered in class 11 maths are Sets, Relations and Functions, Trigonometric Functions, Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations, Linear Inequalities, Permutations and Combinations, Sequence and Series, Straight Lines, Conic Sections, Introduction to Three-dimensional Geometry, Limits and Derivatives, Statistics and Probability.
Among them, the algebra portion carries the maximum marks i.e. 30, followed by the Sets and functions section that carries 23 marks. So you need to emphasize these two parts the most. Also, mark all the important topics of each chapter.
Algebra of events and mutually exclusive and exhaustive events are the most important topics if you consider the whole Maths syllabus.
Clearing your basics is necessary to understand the problems to solve. If you fail to do so, you will just merely mug the solution up. If the same problem does not come in the exam, you will not be able to solve it and score low. Even if the same problem comes, you might forget the steps if you do not get the reason behind the application. The best way to clear the basic concepts is to take help from the NCERT. You must study the NCERT class 11 for Mathematics by heart as most of the questions come from there only. If you stumble in any portion because of your lack of understanding, refer to NCERT of lower classes. Chapters like statistics, logarithm, and trigonometry demand clear basic ideas that you build in the junior classes. To practice the NCERT problems, you can download NCERT maths book class 11 solutions pdf too.
It is really important that you practice previous years’ class 11 Maths question papers because it will give you an idea about how well your preparation is. Practice at least 10 previous year’s questions papers and see how you score. Take a note of the chapters you are consistently faltering. This is your weaker zone and you need to work hard on this part to score full marks in Maths. After analyzing your preparation so far, you can plan ahead, on which chapters to revise more and which to leave. Even if you find yourself well-prepared after solving one paper or two, you should keep on practising more papers because the difficulty level of the exam keeps changing every year, especially when it comes to Maths. Every year, the students who practice previous years’ questions with a timer, score reportedly well.
